>Organization:
>Environment:
x86, Intel C2D on NVIDIA 650i Ultra BIOS Rev. 03

>Description:
Hi,

FreeBSD 7 installation bails out saying "No Disks found!".
( And the emergency shell is plainly unusable!).

I also tried booting dbsd 2.0 (#freebsd suggestion) but it too crashed.

My system details:

C2D 6750
XFX Nforce 650i Ultra BIOS Rev. 03
2GB DDR2 800

Please find the kernel log pictures at:

http://dhiru.kholia.googlepages.com/FreeBSD7-no-ACPIcrash.tar
http://dhiru.kholia.googlepages.com/FreeBSD7nforcecrashACPI.tar

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Do revert back in case you need
more details/logs.

Let nforce get some FreeBSD love!

State-Changed-Why:
To submitter: Firstly, I notice you are using DamnSmallBSD rather than
FreeBSD - do you know if the kernel is different in any way between the
two? It may be best if we can rule that out first, is there any chance
you could download the 7.0-RELEASE miniinstall ISO and try booting from
that? Also, it would be useful if at the same time you could also grab
the 6.3-RELEASE mini-inst ISO and see if that succeeds or also fails to
detect the disks.
Lastly, it would probably be useful if you could perform a verbose boot
of 7.0 and again take pictures of the bootup sequence from the point at
which the kernel starts probing for disks (it's usually within the last
six pages or so).

I've had similar problem wich my Asus P5N-E sli, same chipset.

Others also have. I posted the following in:
 http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-questions/2008-March/171168.html
 """
I have the exact same problem on an Asus P5N-E sli board. I have two ide
harddrives, two ide optical drives and one sata harddisk connected. After
trying to boot FreeBSD 7.0, which gives me "No disks found", i cannot boot in
freebsd 6.2 or linux anymore. I have to reboot with the ide harddisks
disconnected. And then erboot again (with drives reconnected) before my
machine can boot again. (Then both freebsd 6.2 and linxu works again)

This is not a problem in the installer but in the kernel as i get the same
result when upgrading (both to 7.0 and 8.0-current)

I thing thes is a very severe problem/bug/regression.. I dont dare to try
FreeBSD on a laptop where i cannot disconnect the drives as easily.

dmesg from 6.2 attached. I cannot find a way to provide dmesg from 7.0 from
the install cd (disk 1 -- i cannot mount livefs as optical drives are also
 not found)

 Hi, All.

Can you try to boot in safe mode or with APIC disabled?
Several people reported that disabling APIC helped them.
To disable APIC, you can use in boot command prompt
 hint.apic.0.disabled="1"

Also did you try to boot FreeBSD 7.0 amd64?

I can confirm that the system is bootable (both the cd and after install) with
 hint.apic.0.disabled="1"
 (x86)

I think that the bug also appered on amd64 when I tried, but I cannot try that
 atm.

 Troels

Maybe my answer was a bit premature: Although FreeBSD does boot with apic
disabled it still imposes somehow imposes an error on my system: my linux
systems cannot boot afterwards without apic disabled, even tough they used
 to.
