To submitter: Does this happenon every boot, or was it a one-off occurrence? 
If it happens every time, does it also happen with GENERIC kernel rather 
than your own?  I can't see how FreeBSD can be to blame, as this string is 
obrained directly from the CPU.

 Yes, it happens on every boot. I did not have an opportunity to try  
 GENERIC kernel because it is a production system.

Throw back into the pook, I have no idea how this could happen, 
unless we're somehow corrupting memory during the boot.  Maybe 
somebody else can figure it out
