 After speaking with Robert Watson today, I took his suggestion to
 cvsup from 7.0-BETA4 to a time just before the commit of changes to
 
 src/sys/dev/ata/ata-disk.c
 
 which was
 
 src/sys/dev/ata/ata-disk.c,v 1.204.2.1 2007/12/09 19:26:56 delphij
 
 I used this tag
 
 *default release=cvs tag=RELENG_7 date=2007.12.08.00.00.00
 
 Upon performing these actions
 
 cd /usr/src
 make buildworld
 make buildkernel KERNCONF=7020071208000000
 make installkernel KERNCONF=7020071208000000
 mergemaster -p
 make installworld
 mergemaster
 shutdown -r now
 
 I found myself back at a mountroot> prompt indicating my hard drive
 was not detected, as was the case with 7.0-RC1.
 
 Assuming I did everything correctly and did indeed check out code
 prior to the commit, then apparently the problem was introduced before
 then.  However, FreeBSD 7.0-BETA4 as provided by the FreeBSD team did
 work for me.

 I should also mention that I tried to install FreeBSD 6.3-RELEASE on
 the same machine, but it did not recognize my hard drive -- as was the
 case with 7.0-RC1.

 I'm having an issue with the same Intel SATA controller being unable to
 detect my harddrive. It works great on 6.2, but I get a mountroot prompt
 just as this PR describes on 7.0 RELEASE.=20
 
 My kernel configuration is:

 information I can provide? I have 12 servers with this hardware
 configuration and some 7.0 features I'd really like to use.
 
 Just to clarify, I'm running 7.0-RELEASE, and the missing drives issue
 has not been resolved (as it was in RC2 for the original reporter).
