>Release: FreeBSD 3.1-STABLE i386
>Organization:
RPI
>Environment:

This happened with FreeBSD 3.1-STABLE of approximately 4/29.
Hardware is PII/266 192MB with Buslogic SCSI (disks off bt0),
IDE CD, Matrox G200 video, DEC Tulip ethernet (de0), and
	Creative Vibra 16Xv soundcard

>Description:

The problem is that if you:
configure VESA and VM86 into the kernel
boot with a VESA resolution splash screen

The system is unstable and will reboot.

>How-To-Repeat:

Configure a kernel with VESA and VM86
boot with a VESA resolution splash screen
Put the system under fairly heavy load (i.e. netscape,
	realplayer, make buildworld, etc)

>Fix:

a workaround is to not compile in VESA or VM86. I don't know
	of a proper fix.

This is an update to the PR.

I'm not sure exactly how yet, but the problem appears to be
strongly related to Realplayer 5.0 for Linux, running with
 Linux emulation.

 Also, a correct e-mail address is slk@acm.rpi.edu.

I'm going to cvsup to the latest stable and do more testing.

Are you still having the problem?

Does the system crash and how?

The problem starts to manifest itself by dropping 'A' keys when I'm
typing at the local keyboard. Soon the machine locks up completely and
requires a reset or power cycle. I am running ncplib, mars_nwe and user
PPP on this system. After reading this PR, I have disabled VM86 and
VESA in my config. I have a dual PPro-166 system with an Intel PR440FX
 motherboard.
