To submitter: does this problem still persist with 6.2-RELEASE?

The IDE controller is not recognised by 6.2-RELEASE either. It's
recognised under -HEAD as a Marvell 88SX6101 chipset, and will probably
be fixed by an MFC of the following commit:
 http://docs.FreeBSD.org/cgi/mid.cgi?200701041609.l04G9B6F055151

This part of the PR at least is not i386 specific, as the controller also
 doesn't work under amd64.

I can't comment on the xorg issues.

State-Changed-Why:
Note that a fix exists in -CURRENT for the IDE problem, and needs to be
MFCed.

Note to submitter: it is most useful to file different PRs for problems
that are probably not related. Since xorg has just changed completely,
this part of your problem needs to be re-tested on the latest codebase.
