I boot the computer from cd-rom, fdisk. bsdlabel, then chose custom install,
everything is ok, but when chose the media, just a err:

no CD/DVD devices found

I have search the web and found someone had reported the problem:

http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=65410

but the solution is :try do disable some device...

so I do,no use,then try fb 6.0 release
still the same
then fb 4.11 release.
just the same

then I want to see if there is some hardware problem.
so I try to install ubuntu 5.1 on the same computer, everything is ok.

 Hello,

During startup you might have given some boot information,
is the CD/DVD drive detected there? If you were to use
lets say FreeSBIE or PC-BSD, what information do you get
then? (They are build upon FreeBSD releases). Perhaps the
latter step might be required so that we can see what happens
at what stage in case we cannot see the startup information
 from the installation-cd (CD-1)

 Cheers,
 Remko

 Hi folks,

I have experienced the same dreadful message "No CD/DVD devices found!
..." while trying to install FreeBSD 6.1. This happens after I
partitioned the drive, set some installation options, and proceeded to
 install from CD-ROM.

This is puzzling, because I booted from the CD. The CD-ROM is a Mitsumi
 FX140, I think this is a plain ATAPI CD-ROM.

This is my first contact with FreeBSD. I'll be happy to provide more
info if needed, but please give me detailed instructions on how to
capture log files, etc. I'm new to FreeBSD ...

 Thanks,

 Peter

To submitter: Firstly, I'm really sorry that this PR has taken so
long to look at. I wonder, are you able to recreate the issue with
more recent versions of FreeBSD? If your drive is still not recognised,
would you be willing to assist in some minor debugging? Thanks!
