System: FreeBSD udp.nttmcl.com 4.7-RELEASE-p2 FreeBSD 4.7-RELEASE-p2 #1: Thu Jan 23 15:26:13 PST 2003 root@:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386

This was a relatively fresh system. I did not have any other versions of Java
on my system.

>Description:
When running the java command I get the following:

# /usr/local/linux-sun-jdk1.4.1/bin/java
count = 3714, total = 8508
Error occurred during initialization of VM
java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object

Please note that this bug is the same for either root or normal users. Also
note that setting JAVA_HOME as well as CLASSPATH did not fix the problem.

>How-To-Repeat:
/usr/local/linux-sun-jdk1.4.1/bin/java

To work around this problem, I'm using the linux-blackdown-jdk1.4.1 port.

Responsible-Changed-Why:
I'll take a look at this.

State-Changed-When: Fri Jul 18 11:00:21 PDT 2003
State-Changed-Why:
Can you please let me know if the file:

/usr/local/linux-sun-jdk1.4.1/jre/lib/rt.jar

exists? It looks like something went awry during
the installation and the runtime wasn't installed.

Also, do you get the same problem with the port now
its been updated to 1.4.2?

State-Changed-Why:
From the submitter:

"Sorry, I can't answer any of these questions because the machine that
I was running this on is long gone. I've been moved onto another
project, so I don't even use Java these days :( If a new version of
the port exists and works, I don't see anything wrong with just
closing this PR."

The port has since been updated and appears to work (at least for me :),
so I'm closing the PR.
