Can you provide more info, i.e.:
 - BIOS type and version
 - type of CD booting from, i.e. ATAPI, SCSI, or USB

I've seen similar problems when booting off of USB CD-ROMs on certain older
 BIOSes.

I tried to boot the CD on a Samsung X20 XVM 1600 V Notebook. It uses the Intel
i915GM Chipset, the BIOS Version is 08Z.

I'm not a BTX guru, but those who are will certainly need a bit more
information about the hardware of the particular system. Can you
please send at least the following details as a followup to this
 message?

Make sure you keep the <freebsd-gnats-submit@freebsd.org> address
in the list of Cc: addresses and the subject starts with ``Re:
misc/87750: btx''. This way the followup will be added to the "audit
trail" of this PR and anyone who works on it will be able to look at
the history of the bug report more easily ;-)

 Giorgos

 Hi,

The BTX error messages that I reported are with the first installation cd
of the 6.1 release (downloaded this week). Installing FreeBSD is possible
with diskettes, however, when rebooted, the system halts at the same
point. During the installation, once the installation system was loaded, I
didn't have any problems (hardware, installation system segfaults etc.).

I have had similar experiences with 7.0-Current images and those of the
 5.x releases.

 Hi,

The ISO image for the 6.1 release is the most recent. I have just tested
 a 7.0-Current snapshot(7.0-CURRENT-200608-i386-disc1.iso) with similiar
 results, except for two differences:

 "ss:esp=8c ce" etc. instead of "ssp:esp=9c b7"

 and

 "edi=0005ce8c" instead of "edi=0005b79c"

I have not tried the 5.5 release, but will if you think that it would be
 useful.

 Hi,

This problem persists with the latest current snapshot (200609,
i386-bootonly). The "edi" and "ss:esp" differences with the the 6.1
 release are the same.

There's a handful lot of other similar PRs which might
