>Description:
The 5.4 generic kernel (and the one sans acpi) cannot be run on the HP
zv5000 (i386 or amd64) series laptops. Once the kernel is loaded into
memory, the machine immediately powers off. Several people have experienced
this. The NetBSD 2.0.2 and OpenBSD 3.7 generic kernels work fine. All
2.6.7-2.6.13 linux kernels work.

I qemu'ed a i386 install only to have the same behavior when booting
freebsd off the hard disk.

Sorry I can't provide a dump or anything. =(.
>How-To-Repeat:
Boot FreeBSD.
>Fix:
Use different hardware; use kernel from other OS.

 Is there any chance you could hook up a null modem cable and boot over seri=
 al=20
 console to see if the kernel outputs any messages before it turns the machi=
 ne=20
 off?
