>Description:
FreeBSD system restarts if the keyboard is not connected. It happens right after presenting "Welcome to FreeBSD" screen after waiting for running default. If the keyboard is connected, everything is fine.
My FreeBSD is installed on a computer with Intel 486DX100 processor with 20 MB RAM, 815MB hard disk. There are also three PCI netcards. Graphic card is Trident 512 KB.
>How-To-Repeat:
Just run the FreeBSD without keyboard plugged.

To submitter: Firstly, I'm sorry that this PR has sat for so long without
anyone looking at it. Can you tell me, is this still a problem with newer
versions of FreeBSD?

I tried to install release 7.0 of FreeBSD on the machine.
As it has no ability to boot from CD I prepared boot floppies.
After loading the welcome screen with options to choose
I chose to load default configuration but after doing that
system restarts (the keyboard is connected).

I got to the documentation and it says that 24 MB of RAM
is the required minimum nowadays. Maybe this is the cause
 of restart.

With release 5.4 problem still occurs the system restarts
immediately after choosing to load the default configuration
 if the keyboard is unplugged.

State-Changed-Why:
To submitter: It wouldn't surprise me at all if the cause of this problem
is that you only have 24Mb of RAM. For a while FreeBSD has recommended
an absoloute minimum of more than that, so your best bet is to probably
stick with 6.x or maybe even 5.x (note that this is officially end-of-life
so is no longer supported for security updates), or add more RAM.

Are you happy for me to close this PR?

State-Changed-Why:
Feedback timeout (6 months). I suspect the issue is that FreeBSD these
days simply requires much more than the 20 meg RAM that this system has.
