I have a SimpleTech SimpleDrive external Hard Drive
(160 GB) via USB 2.0, and although the USB controllers
are fine, I don't see that umass is found by devfs,
and neither does da0 appear in /dev.

Do you have SCSI disk support enabled ? Could you mail a "kldstat -v" ?

 Hi=20

I have the same problem with supporting USB pen drives. Actually I have =
two pen drives, one of them (Kingston DataTravel USB2.0 1GB) cannot be =
used with the FreeBSD station. When I plug in the disk the following =
 messages are displayed:

 umass0: Kingston DataTraveler2.0, rev 2.00/2.00, addr 2

 No "da" devices is created

 powerbsd# ls -la /dev/da*
 ls: No match.

When I plug in the second pen drive a "da" device is created and it is =
 possible to mount the disk.

umass0: LEXR PLUG DRIVE LEXR PLUG DRIVE, rev 1.10/0.01, addr 2
 da0 at umass-sim0 bus 0 target 0 lun 0
 da0: <LEXAR DIGITAL FILM /W1.> Removable Direct Access SCSI-2 device=20
 da0: 1.000MB/s transfers
 da0: 61MB (125952 512 byte sectors: 64H 32S/T 61C)

The Kingston Pen Drive for sure works fine. I can use it with WinXP and =
 Linux stations.
The problem also exist with GENERIC kernel.
