Attempting to 5.3-RELEASE (downloaded 10 March 2005) on a Compaq Armada E500S with 256MB RAM, 650MHz PII processor, and a Compaq Netelligent 10/100 PC Card.
>Description:
I am attempting to install 5.3-Release onto an empty partition, booting off of floppies and installing via ftp. If I have the ethernet card plugged in, the booting process freezes. The last lines displayed before freezing are:

At this point the computer locks up. If, however, you eject the PCMCIA
card at this point, it gives another message:

Shutting down ACPI
Automatic reboot in 15 seconds - press a key on the console to abort

After 15 seconds the screen goes blank, but the system does not actually
restart.

I have tested the system with two identical Netelligent 10/100 PC Cards,
and the system will not boot if either is installed. I have been able to
connect to the internet in Windows with these cards. I also tried each
card in both PCMCIA slots on the computer.

If I don't plug the network card into the machine, it boots off the
floppies just fine, and gets to the sysintall main menu.

Thank you,
Daniel
>How-To-Repeat:
Boot from 5.3-Release installation floppies with Compaq Netelligent 10/100 PC Card ethernet card installed.

State-Changed-Why:

To submitter: Is this still an issue with more recent versions of
FreeBSD? If so, can you tell me what happens if you plug the
network card in after the machine has finished booting? Are you
able to providethe full dmesg output? (Or specifically, the
messages surrounding the probe of the PC Card slot itself)
