>Description:

Hi,

I have a FreeBSD with Compaq Disk array.
ida0: <Compaq Integrated Array controller> port 0x2000-0x20ff mem 0xf5000000-0xf
5ffffff,0xf6000000-0xf6ffffff irq 19 at device 1.0 on pci0
ida0: drives=0 firm_rev=1.42

This server has:
MPTable: <COMPAQ   PROLIANT    >
Timecounter "i8254" frequency 1193182 Hz quality 0
CPU: Intel Pentium III (731.02-MHz 686-class CPU)
  Origin = "GenuineIntel"  Id = 0x683  Stepping = 3
  Features=0x383fbff<FPU,VME,DE,PSE,TSC,MSR,PAE,MCE,CX8,APIC,SEP,MTRR,PGE,MCA,CM
OV,PAT,PSE36,MMX,FXSR,SSE>
real memory  = 2281684992 (2175 MB)
avail memory = 2211622912 (2109 MB)
FreeBSD/SMP: Multiprocessor System Detected: 2 CPUs
 cpu0 (BSP): APIC ID:  1
 cpu1 (AP): APIC ID:  0
ioapic0: Changing APIC ID to 8
ioapic0: Assuming intbase of 0
ioapic0 <Version 1.1> irqs 0-34 on motherboard
Pentium Pro MTRR support enabled

Problems:
- I can't use ACPI (the SO freeze)
- When the server has many writting, the server crash and only ping works to it.

I've tried to use the GENERIC kernel, but the problem continue.

I've the same problem with two more server, using another Array adapter controller
(from Compaq). One of them, the ACPI works, but the problem not.

=========================================================================

Using FreeBSD 5.2.1 I have problems with:
- Mylex Disk Array 960 and 1164 (I've made the inicial installation, but
after the first boot, the SO freeze).

=========================================================================

Now, I'm using:
ACPI APIC Table: <DELL   PE2650  >
Timecounter "i8254" frequency 1193182 Hz quality 0
CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.20GHz (2192.90-MHz 686-class CPU)
  Origin = "GenuineIntel"  Id = 0xf27  Stepping = 7
  Features=0xbfebfbff<FPU,VME,DE,PSE,TSC,MSR,PAE,MCE,CX8,APIC,SEP,MTRR,PGE,MCA,C
MOV,PAT,PSE36,CLFLUSH,DTS,ACPI,MMX,FXSR,SSE,SSE2,SS,HTT,TM,PBE>
  Hyperthreading: 2 logical CPUs
real memory  = 2147352576 (2047 MB)
avail memory = 2080600064 (1984 MB)
FreeBSD/SMP: Multiprocessor System Detected: 2 CPUs
 cpu0 (BSP): APIC ID:  0
 cpu1 (AP): APIC ID:  1

atapci0: <ServerWorks CSB5 UDMA100 controller> port 0x8b0-0x8bf,0x8d8-0x8db,0x8d
0-0x8d7,0x8c8-0x8cb,0x8c0-0x8c7 at device 15.1 on pci0

In this system, I've a qmail system. I had a directory with around 14K accounts and
many sub-directorys. When I made rm -rf <dir>, the system crash again.

I don't know what I need to do to fix that. My server is in production and it's commun
to reboot the server pressing the power button.

Thanks for any help and sorry for my english.
Luiz.
>How-To-Repeat:
If the server has many writing in the disc, the server can crash.

I don't know.

 Please load the latest FreeBSD 6.2 and download

 ftp://ftp.jurai.net/users/winter/idacontrol.tar

 and install it.  Then run

 idaconfig show

 and add the output to this PR.

 Matthew N Dodd suggested on the freebsd-scsi mailing
 list to another poster to change

 #define IDA_QCB_MAX = 128 instead of 256

 in sys/dev/ida/idavar.h who was having similar problems.
 The other poster did this and reported it fixed the problems.
 Please try this and report back if it corrects it.

 You should insure that you are using genuine Compaq disk
 drives in your array. Compaq, now HP, has always stated that
 non-Compaq disks were unsupported on these array cards and
 may misbehave.
