 Hello,
had the problem with the kernel panic on my GERICOM Laptop too. I
found out how to bypass this problem.
Just start the ACPI Kernel (acpi.ko) while booting from insallation
CD-Rom (select from boot menu). You will see, it works. Now its
possible to install FreeBSD on the Laptop (tried with 5.0-RELEASE and
 5.2-RELEASE).
After insatllation be sure to select the mode with "ACPI enabled" at the
boot menu. Or make your own kernel.
 Now FreeBSD works fine.

oh, Laptop is an GERICOM Overdose III

 Regards,

 Jan Jacobs
