>Description:
I got error with VIA 694 ATA controller. Errors (from dmesg) is UDMA ICRC ERROR. Machine works normaly only with PIO 4 mode enabled. Attached device is Seagate Barracuda ata V drive. Drive & motherboard is tested with differ os'es (linux, win nt 5.0 win nt 5.1) and works normaly. Decreaceing ata mode to 4 , 2 , or 1 is not helps with this trouble. I cannot see any big corruptions on drive but system reboots with some unwritten buffers.
>How-To-Repeat:
Install FreeBSD to VIA 694 / 694T chip based motherboard. It's repeats both on 5.2 and 4.9

 Hi,

I see the same error using 5.2.1 when entering and exiting from X.

 AMD 2500
 Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 m/b, NVidia nForce 2 MCP controller, 512Mb RAM,
 80Gb WD800JB HDD (8Mb cache, 7200RPM).

Changing Modes has also not assisted, and using Red Hat Linux the problem
 does not reoccur.

Reinstalling FreeBSD works for a short period of time. BIOS set to LBA
mode, and does have the same settings as those used to prepare the drive
 at install.

 Regards,
 Dwight BOnney

State-Changed-Why:
ICRC errors are almost certainly because of cable/connector problems.
Make sure you have spec'd 80conductor cables and have turned them
the right way around (blue connector in controller ned, grey/black
for the slave/master device.
