>Description:
in the release docs for freebsd 5.1 it is told that sis 645DX is
supported, but it doesn't work, still hang up with a read error as
described by others in older releases. I will appreciate any help that
can get me up running with this chipset without completely disabling ata/udma.
>How-To-Repeat:
get a sis645DX mobo install and reboot from your newly installed freebsd
5.1, then wait 15 seconds and see the system hangs up.
>Fix:
disable udma support, but I think it will be better if someone could fix
it so the hardware support page is telling the true "story". Have seen
patches for si651 forcing it to run ata100, but doesnt seems to work for
me with 645DX.

the 645 is supported (or rather the southbridge sis 96x is supported.

Anyhow please try 5.2-R as 5.1 is out of date.

Sorry, my mistake that I looked in the 5.1 hardware support section, but my=
iso image is labeled 5.2-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso and is truely 5.2-release =
according to the boot up menu.

If it can help you guys in any way, here is some specs:
My motherboard is a ECS P4S5A/DX+ eqquiped with DDR2700 RAM (telling you th=
is because some guys told me that it will solve the problem if I just chang=
ed from my old SD133 RAM), but the problem is still there.

Hello,

can you tell me whether the problem got resolvedin later
releases of FreeBSD? like 6.1 for instance? We did a lot
of work on the ATA drivers etc and this might have been
fixed in the meantime.
