>Description:
i have been experiencing this strange behaviour after upgrade from freebsd 4.x to freebsd 5.0 (and now with 5
.1). when i use a nylon socks proxy (havent tested it with any other, frequently-opening network connections software
), the machine hangs, that is - no activity at all - programs on that machine stop working, the tcp/ip stack as well.
the strange thing is that after pressing any key on the keyboard, the machine continues running - including freezed
programs and tcp/ip. i thought it might have been machine problem but i moved the disks to another machine and the pr
oblem is still there. i also thought it might have been a ACPI problem, but neither of the machines (both old pentium
 mmxes) supports it.
>How-To-Repeat:
run nylon socks proxy, use it to connect to multiple machines, wait for hang. then - press any key on the key
board
>Fix:

 a small update

it seems that not only nylon causes such behaviour.
nessus, when doing heavy network scans also locks up
 the machine

State-Changed-When: Sun Mar 19 17:48:38 UTC 2006
State-Changed-Why:
This can also be generated from failing hardware (overheating
components for example) or some power options that might
have been enabled in the BIOS instead of in the operating
itself. This can cause the system to stop responding after
a little since it might to into sleep mode or something.
This would explain why touching the keyboard makes the
machine go again...

Can you confirm the above?
