 Has anyone looked at this PR?  Does anyone have hints how this could be
 solved?  I see the problem on 4.9, 4.10 and on 5.2.1 as well.

The USB subsystem entirely changed, so it's no longer the way it was. 
This needs retesting on recent hardware and then decide what to do.
