>Description:
When running the mount command on the ATA CDROM device /dev/cd0, the mount process (cd9660) hangs indefinitely. It cannot be killed with a kill -9 signal. Fails with a plextor ATA CDROM drive in its place too so it's a controller/os/bus issue.

The hardware is the same as a compaq proliant 850r except in desktop form. See dmesg for details.

Only a reboot solves the problem as the process is unkillable.

MEdia and drive work ok in another system.

Might be something to do with: ?

acd0: MODE_SENSE_BIG command timeout - resetting
ata0: resetting devices .. done
acd0: read data overrun 10/0
acd0: read data overrun 4/0
acd0: CDROM <HITACHI CDR-7930> at ata0-master PIO3
>How-To-Repeat:
# mount /cdrom

.. process hangs and never completes.
>Fix:
Unknown apart from use a SCSI CDROM.

This is still broken in FreeBSD 4.10. The problem is also in the
Compaq Professional Workstation 2000 and Professional Workstation
6000. I suspect that all 3 Professional Workstations use the same
 chipset for their IDE controller.

In searching the FreeBSD newsgroup, IDE cdrom has been broken on
these PC's ever since the wd driver was replaced. Previously
the wd driver in version 3.X did work on these. I have tried
different CDROM's in these systems over the years. Fortunately
all these workstations shipped with SCSI drives as standard from
 the factory.

See PR's i386/63098 and bin/44188 they are the same problem.
