FreeBSD server.svintos.com 4.6.2-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.6.2-RELEASE #0: Wed Aug 14 21:23:26 GMT 2002     murray@builder.freebsdmall.com:/usr/src/sys/compile/GENERIC  i386
>Description:
Upon mounting the filesystems,either manually or during a boot, I get the following error message;
ad3: UDMA ICRC error reading fsbn 74 (ad3 bn 74; cn 0 tn 1 sn 11) retrying
ad3: UDMA ICRC error reading fsbn 74 (ad3 bn 74; cn 0 tn 1 sn 11) falling back to PIO mode
I didn't have this problem when I had the previous version installed, 4.4.
After the intial messages the filesystems seem to work correctly. I only say that because I haven't encountered any problems yet.
Here sre the two lines from /etc/fstab:
/dev/ad2s1e  /usr/home/stuff/smb1  ufs   rw    2     2
/dev/ad3s1e  /usr/home/stuff/smb2  ufs   rw    2     2
>How-To-Repeat:
Here, all I have to do is remount the filesystems.

State-Changed-Why:
Not a bug, rather it seems like a hardware problem. You have CRC errors
reading blocks from the drive in non-PIO mode. Check all cabling and
connectors. If the messages persist I suggest replacing the disk. If you
haven't done so already, now is the time for a backup. Your drive might
be failing in the near future.
