>Description:
When I boot up X on my brand new Dell Dimension 4500 (256mb ram, 2.0ghz P4, nVidia 420MX) the cursur hangs out on the upper left hand of the screen. I can move the mouse around, with out the cursur and can click buttons, I just get no cursur along with it. Also, I don't know if this is an issue or not, but I can not have two hard drives on the same controller -- one is 80gig, the other is 40gig. VirusXP, I mean WindowsXP boots just fine, but FreeBSD hangs on boot telling me that it the ATA controller timed out, and that it is resetting, but it never recovers. I don't know whether or not I just need to pull out my 45 and dispatch my computer or what. I have a temperary solution to the problem by seperationing them on different controllers, but that is causing performance issues (80gig and then a DVD on controller one, then CD-R/W and 40gig on controller two, so I am not getting full transfer rates.) Is this an issue with my controller, since I have replaced both drives,
or is it a FreeBSD quark?
>How-To-Repeat:
I have no idea how to repeat the problem. I have tried to install XFree86, but it doesn't support the video card (the best mode I get is 320x4??). However, XFree86 did support my mouse. I have even tried to use FreeBSD 4.0 with XFree86 3.3.6. So I have idea how to deal with the problem, and it has made my FreeBSD box unusable. If you need further information, drop me a line and I will get you what ever you need. From the research I have done, I think it might be my video card, but I dunno.

 Ben,

This is really a question as opposed to a problem report, I feel.

Could you try asking your questions on the FreeBSD Questions mailing list at
questions@FreeBSD.org (I'd suggest one mail per question) ?

The folks there will be able to help you, and if it does turn out to be a
FreeBSD problem then they should also be able to help you with getting some
diagnostics that the developers can use to track the issues down.

 Thanks,

 Ceri
