I've tried to install 5.0-DP1 on my new Thinkpad R31. According to
boot -vp the following happens:

...
bios32: Found BIOS32 Service Directory header at 0xc00eda30
bios32: Entry = 0x0 (c0000000) Rev = 0 Len = 0

Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode
...
Stopped at kernbase+0x1: incl 0(%eax)
...

4.5 installed without similar problems.

Any hints what to try next?

for the records: 4.5 finds the BIOS32 like so:

 ...
bios32: Found BIOS32 Service Directory header at 0xc00f0280
 bios32: Entry = 0xf0210 (c00f0210) Rev = 0 Len = 1
pcibios: PCI BIOS entry at 0x0
pnpbios: Found PnP BIOS data at 0xc00f6dd0
 pnpbios: Entry = fa100:0 Rev = 1.0
 pnpbios: Event flag 4b0
 Other BIOS signatures found:
 ACPI: 000fe030
 ...

I wonder if disabeling ACPI might help? I think you can do this by
pressing space at the 10 seconds count-down and saying "unset acpi_load".

Submitter no longer has access to the hardware to test.
Assuming the problem has been fixed by a later ACPI import.
