FreeBSD 4.0-RELEASE can't boot on an ASUS K7V Motherboard. It crashes
on the second? stage boot. Happens from either CDROM or Harddisk.
The ASUS K7M works fine.
Happens with either BIOS revision 1003 (original) or 1005.

I also had this problem booting a 4.0-RELEASE CD, however, it worked
perfectly with a 4.1-RELEASE CD. Did either of you try a newer CD?

I have an Athlon 800 with an Asus K7V.

The error is caused by lack of BTX emulation support for the RDMSR and
WRMSR instructions. The support was added in late June 2000. What
versions of /boot/boot2 and /boot/loader are you using; and can you try
with the latest from -stable or -current?

Try to get the 4.1-RELEASE. This works on both the K7V and the A7V Asus
Boards without problems. If you have a fast Internet connection and a
CD Burner, try to download the ISO Image from ftp.freebsd.org and burn
your own CD. This was, what i used for the tests because the "official"
4.1-RELEASE CDs came last week. I must admit, that i had not tested it
again with the "official" CDs yet.
