it doesn't get far enough to install to do this :-)
>Description:
I have a DECpc XL 466d2 i386 box. it has a dx4/100 cpu and 32M of ram.
It's got an Intel "Saturn" chipset which supports 3 PCI and 4 ISA slots.
It's got on board SCSI (ncr), with 2*IDE (disabled in bios). I'm using
1 * seagate ST3600N, 1 * ST 410800N and 1 * DEC RRD43 scsi devices.
1 * Virge S3 PCI video card

a few install problems to note:

If i boot the system, it occasionally will crash when detecting the
CDROM, with "Not Ready". thud

If i boot the system with a ISA 3COM 3c509 Etherlink III card, i'm unable to initialise
the network (or get any link lights). I quickly gave up on the ISA card
as i didn't want to muck around with dos/software.

I put in a 3c590 Ethernetlink III PCI card. The system boots as far as
detecting the card at which point i get something like:

vga0 on irq 255
ep0 on irq0

the system then hangs.

i tried a 2nd 3c590 card - same problem.

i then tried a 3c595 10/100 PCI card - same problem.

is this a known bug/work around ? i haven't yet tried to muck around with
3com's config files etc, as this would involve booting dos on the machine
which is a pain.

regards,

-jason
>How-To-Repeat:
i've repeated the above problem 3-4 times to ensure it wasn't a one off
but unless you have similar hardware..

Taking a (very?) long shot: an XL466d2 officially has a 486DX2 CPU, not
 a DX4/100.
Any chance you can try a DX2 to see if this makes any difference?

it's been quite a while - from my hazy memory, i've had the
same problem with a dx2 also.
