System: FreeBSD martenvijn.nl 7.1-RELEASE-p5 FreeBSD 7.1-RELEASE-p5 #5: Mon Apr 27 14:48:44 CEST 2009 root@martenvijn.nl:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386

and 8.0 (some days ago)

affected hardware:
- wrap board (pceninges)
- Soekris 4826
not affected:
- Alix (pcengines)
- Soekris Net4521

Description:

The boot fails right after the bios.

How-To-Repeat:

Building a cf image (nanobsd/tinybsd)/ pxeboot of a current 7.1 (okt 2008 works) or 8.0
I am building 7.2 right now to test.

boot0cfg -b bootsio /dev/cf-disk does not solve the problem.

I have not found any.

Thanks for all the work so far.

State-Changed-Why:
To submitter: can you be more specific please? How exactly does the
boot fail? Do you get any error messages, panic or register dumps? Does
the boot hang? Or does the BIOS simply give up booting and move on to
the next boot device?

Subject: some help wished on pr 135961

Yesterday I had a chat session with gavin (#bugbusters)

There seems to be a problem with the boot0 loader
 with pcengines boards from CF-card:
 - WRAP 1C
 - WRAP 2E
 - ALIX 1C
 (- maybe Soekris NET4826)

The failiure occurs just before or after

 STARTING BTX loader

 help wished:
 - help to create verbose (debugging) loader (boot0)
 - new debug strategies?
 - create fixes.
 - If you live in Leiden, the Netherlands, maybe hands-on hacking.

 possible related issues:
 - failing boot0cfg -s (only works on -s1 setting -s2|3|4 boots s1
 - slow /failing PXEboot

 thanks,
 Marten

NET4826 does boot from PXE and boot0 (CF)

 7.x is not tested.

 thanks,
 Marten
