I tried to netboot the WRAP via PXE TFTP and NFS. it seems to mount the
NFS but then hangs at the BTX loader - no halt, it just would not continue.

imho there was/is a BIOS bug in the WRAPs.

There is a some description here:
 http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-embedded/2006-July/000024.html

You can find some blog/mailinglist posts/... about how to update the
etherboot in there to a newer version etc. or to chain load
 etherboots.

See this link for exmaple but be sure to read and understand things
before doing them (you can kill your box so don't tell me you have been warned!)

Software is harder than hardware so better get it right the first time.

First of all, it does not 'halt' but it would not continue, i.e. it
 hangs.

Second, as you can see in my above output the BIOS is newer than
described in the solution for the other bug in your link.

Then again, I heard the OpenBSD BTX is much more reliable than the
 FreeBSD one...
