>Description:
I am trying to install FreeBSD on a customer's machine which has a Dell
Powervault 745N.

He has some funny SCSI RAID controller.

He only wants to use it as a mail server but I can't get past it trying
nsuccessfully to find the disk drives.

Do you know anything about this?

I've tried various versions of Linux too with similar lack of success.

State-Changed-Why:
We need more information about this beast.

From what little from-the-hip google research I have done, I
learn that this thing is a Pentium 4 machine with a SATA backplane.

What we'd need to know is what kind of controller it has.
For that, it may be best if you can load and run FreeBSD via CDROM
or possibly FreeSBIE -- we need to get the system up to single
user from a CDROM or NFS or ram disk, run pciconf -lv and get
the IDs of the RAID controller which is being problematic.

Hope this helps!

It seems the OS has recognized the SATA Controller, but could not get
 the hard disk.

State-Changed-Why:
I contacted Soren about this, and untill we can get him the hardware
and proper resources, we will not be able to fix this. Suspend this
for the time being... (Dell/Intel might be able to help out).

Hello, would it be possible to confirm that this is still
relevant for recent FreeBSD versions?

I had to give up on that machine and let him get on with installing
Windows (sigh).

I suggest this be closed.
