Issuing the command 1:wd(1,a)kernel on (previous) FreeBSD bootmanagers
or bootfloppy (version 3.0) fails loading a 3.1 kernel, but loads the
2.2.1 or 3.0 kernel on second IDE controllers.

 procedures

This is not changable. The former kernel loader was not capable of
loading Elf kernels. Thus, you must install a new kernel loader.

Incidentally, the kernel load procedures *did* change. A number of
reasons exist for that. No further progress could be made with what
 we had.

To solve your problem, enter 1:wd(1,a)/boot/loader (or just
/boot/loader, if that works for you) to load the new third stage
loader, which will then proceed to boot the kernel. Then issue the
command "disklabel -B wd1" to install the new boot blocks on wd1.

If new problems arise, you can contact me.
