 By default, rsh thinks the remote command wants input, so it sucks up stdin.   
 Try rsh -n if the remote command doesn't require any input. 
 
 % rsh -n localhost sleep 5 
 echo hi jeffrey 
 % hi jeffrey 
 
 Bill
