Now thats what I'm talking about. This kinda stuff has got to make the

makes things like digital audio and video mixing a lot easier.

it's still an interesting, albeit strange, phenomenon. I would say
part of it has to do with the lack of lives that many of the younger

   NASA Faces Major Budget Cuts

jfoust writes "A House of Representatives appropriations subcommittee
approved Monday a nearly 10 percent cut in NASA's fiscal year 2000
budget, with most of the cuts in science and aeronautics. If approved,
it would mean most of the currently-planned space science projects,
including missions to Mars, Pluto, Europa, and comets, plus new space

Mark Spencer wrote in to say that since the AOL vs. Microsoft fiasco
has begun, the GAIM team has been told they aren't allowed to use the
AOL logo and other various terms in their documentation (with certain
exceptions), so they have put out a request for new logo in the form
of a contest. This comes after AOL has been blocking Microsoft from
letting its MSN users send messages to users of its AIM service, and
right before IBM unveils messaging software of their own, though that

   Ask Slashdot: Cyber Patrol Censorship?

                  from the censoring-gone-overboard dept.
John R. Johns II submitted this issue which many of us might be faced
with in the future: "I found out today that my entire ISP's primary
web server is blocked by Cyber Patrol. Cyber Patrol blocks the web
server because a few users have adult content, but the result is that
all accounts on the server are blocked regardless of content. Cyber
Patrol won't remove the ban (I guess they have no method of only
partially blocking a server), and my provider won't boot the users
with the adult material. I support my ISP for keeping the users with
the adult materials, because it is a matter of freedom of speech, but
I believe it is wrong for them not to provide a separate web server
for the stigmatized users, so that not everyone is blocked due to the
content owned by a few. What can you do when faced with a situation
like this? Click below for more.

TurboLinux Claims to be Number One OS in Japan

                          from the way-to-go dept.
According to a company press release published today on Yahoo!Finance,
TurboLinux is now the top-selling Japanese computer operating system.
Not just the top-selling Linux distribution, but the top-selling OS,
period, with sales almost as great as those of the Windows 98
commercial release and the Windows 98 commercial update combined. If
only new commercial OS sales, not upgrades, are considered, things
look even rosier for TurboLinux, which claims 24.09% of total market
share as opposed to 13.25% for Win98 and 10.23% for Macintosh.
