Fatal error: Probably wrong disk inserted

During the installation from bootdisk, you get the following message after calling YaST:

 Mounting install disk...
   *** Fatal error: Probably wrong disk inserted ***
 /bin/yast: sleep: I/O error

The following errors can be the cause:

The installation disk is not in the drive.
You have taken too long during the rootdisk's insertion or you have pressed twice the return key.
The floppy controller does not detect reliably a disk change .

You can avoid the last possibility by overwriting in the directory /dev the file fd0 with

mv fd0H1440
fd0

Now the possible variations:

You boot with option "kernel.4"

This means, that kernel is loaded from the bootdisk. However the rootdisk does not get into the ramdisk but it is mounted. Execute then mkswap and exit Linux.

Reboot then kernel, this time without the ending .4. Insert afterwards the rootdisk and then - after request - the installation disk. Enter Yast, Yast runs smoothly. Enter your swap partition and install Linux happily...
