LaTeX cannot be started

Applies to

SuSE Linux: Versions since 5.2

Symptom:

After the installation of the package tetex the execution of latex results in the message 
I canīt find the default format file

Cause:

The socalled hash-file wasn't created correctly. This file contains the search path of teTeX.

Solution:

Enter the following command at the command line : 
/usr/bin/TeX/texhash
This command will create a new hash-file and LaTeX should find its format files now.
