/etc/sendmail.cf
SuSE Linux: Versions up to (including) 4.4.1
When editing and testing /etc/sendmail.cf, errors occur or changes are simply irgnored.
When installing a new package, YaST calls /sbin/SuSEconfig. Depending on the
local configuration a new /etc/sendmail.cf is generated from the files /etc/sendmail.smtp.cf
and /etc/sendmail.uucp.cf.
When changing rules in /etc/sendmail.cf tabulation stops must be used instead of blanks.
Change either /etc/sendmail.smtp.cf or /etc/sendmail.uucp.cf. In order to use your own
/etc/sendmail.cf, set the variable SENDMAIL_TYPE in /etc/rc.config to
no. This can be done comfortably with YaST or manually with an editor followed by a call to
/sbin/SuSEconfig. Please read in any case the chapter ``The SuSE boot concept'' in the
manual.
The rules, assignments and comments in /etc/sendmail.cf are grouped together in columns, that must
be separated by tabulation stops (TAB). For example in the following rule S1
################################################## ### Ruleset 1 -- Sender Field Pre-rewriting ### ################################################## S1 Ruser otheruser<@domain.name> Ruser<@localhost.domain.name.> otheruser<@domain.name>there must be tabulation stops between
Ruser in the first column and otheruser
in the second one.
A third column - again separated by a tabulation stop - is a comment. There may of course not be any tabulation stops within one column.
