The PPP daemon reports a missing IPX support in the kernel.

Applicable to
S.u.S.E. version: from 4.4 on
Kernel version: from 2.0 on

Symptom:

The pppd or ipppd complains during the start about a missing IPX support in the kernel. (See /var/log/messages)

Cause:

The pppd is compiled with IPX support from S.u.S.E. Linux 4.4 and from S.u.S.E. Linux 5.0, the ipppd, too.

For this purpose, an IPX support must be available in the kernel (compiled in or as modul) or the IPX protocol via ppp is to be disabled.

Solution:

You need the IPX protocol
- Generate either the kernel or the modul correspondingly.
- Set in /etc/ppp/options the switch:
```
           -ipx-protocol
           
```
No need for the IPX protocol
- Generate either the kernel or the modul correspondingly without IPX protocol.
- Set in /etc/ppp/options the switch:
```
           -ipx-protocol
           
```
