Multisession CDROM under Linux

Symptom:

Cause:

Solution:

• Multisession works already with some SCSI drives. For this, one must activate the "vendor specific extensions" during the kernel translation.

  With SCSI-CDROMs works with NEC, Toshiba and Sony. With others only if the drive deals with it "transparently", i.e. works its way by itself through the sessions until the last one.

• For the Mitsumi there is extra the xmcd driver.
• A drive, that only shows the first session, either cannot start with the multisession (that was really only before the double speed era), or it requires a manufacturer specific command.
• Eberhard Moenkenberg has made the corresponding support for nearly every "proprietary" drive for which there is a driver. The most careful ones for either CR-562 by Matsushita/Panasonic or CR-563 by CreativeLabs.
• ATAPI drives point themselves to the last session.
