KDE and SuSEconfig.functions

Symptom:

You've installed a S.u.S.E. Linux version older than 5.2 on your computer and you want to use KDE-Beta4 from the S.u.S.E. ftp server. However after the installation the script SuSEconfig.kdm aborts with the error message 
   ERROR - can not find /lib/YaST/SuSEconfig.functions
As a consequence of this behaviour the file kdmrc in /opt/kde/share/config isn't created correctly, changed settings will have no effect.

Cause:

Starting with S.u.S.E Linux version 5.2 a script with the name SuSEconfig.functions is read for different tasks, which provides a couple of functions to SuSEconfig. Some of these functions are also needed by the script SuSEconfig.kdm. However in older versions of S.u.S.E. Linux there was no SuSEconfig.functions, so SuSEconfig.kdm can't work in this case.

Solutions:

1. possibility :

In order to solve this problem you must adapt SuSEconfig.kdm such that it also works with older versions of S.u.S.E Linux. It is therefore necessary to update the KDE base-package. You can get a new base-package from the following location :

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse_update/KDE/Beta4-with-qt-1.33/kbase-beta4-3.i386.rpm

After you have downloaded the package, you can install it e.g. with the following command : 

   rpm -U kbase-beta4-3.i386.rpm
Then you must start (as user root) SuSEconfig.

2. possibility :

If you don't want to download the complete KDE base-package, you can proceed as follows :

Hint :

Please note that version 1.33 of qt is absolutely necessary if you want to use version 4-3 of KDE
