MAPLE V does not open any plot window

Symptom: error messages during the MAPLE V start

When the MAPLE X11 version xmaple is started, messages like the following ones appear:

Warning: translation table syntax error: Unknown keysym name: osfActivate
Warning: ... found while parsing 'osfActivate:ManagerParentActivate()'
Warning: translation table syntax error: Unknown keysym name: osfCancel
Warning: ... found while parsing 'osfCancel:ManagerParentCancel()'

and during the plot commands' use no graphic window is opened.

Cause:

The programme MAPLE looks for the file XKeysymDB in an old path that is not available anymore. The file XKeysymDB is now in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11. MAPLE looks for it in /usr/X386/lib/X11.

Solution: install `eazy`

Install the packet eazy of the serie a with YaST. This packet sets symbolic links, so that old programmes run smoothly. Alternatively, the link can also be manually set:

ln -s /usr/X1186 /usr/X386

In some occasions this is already enough, but not always. If only the error messages during the MAPLE V start are disappeared but still no plot window is opened, the files

/usr/lib/maple/X11_defaults/Maple2dX11m
/usr/lib/maple/X11_defaults/Maple3dX11m

must be modified. Comment out the lines

Maple2dX11m:Maple2dX11m*hardcopy.dialogTitle: Print
Maple3dX11m:Maple3dX11m*hardcopy.dialogTitle: Print

by typing before them !. In the next version MAPLE V release 4 this problem should be repaired. Another hint comes from Richard Greiner (greiner@mathematik.uni-wuerzburg.de). In the script

/usr/lib/maple/maple

both lines

XAPPLRESDIR=$MAPLE/X11_defaults
export XAPPLRESDIR

should be commented out:

# XAPPLRESDIR=$MAPLE/X11_defaults
# export XAPPLRESDIR
