Error message after leaving YaST on S.u.S.E. Linux 5.0

Applies to

SuSE Linux: Version 5.0, 1st Edition

Symptom:

You have already setup quite some steps of the installation (partitioning, assigning filesystems, selecting packages etc.) and leave YaST for a reboot. After leaving YAST linuxrc pronounces an error: 
"Th installation has not finished correctly."

Cause:

There are two reasons:
    The return value of YaST is misinterpreted by
  1. linuxrc; it assumes an error has occured. This may only happen if you have partitioned your disk in advance (or changed them). If so you should have seen a message advising you to reboot your system.

  2. An error has occured during the installation, e.g. YaST has crashed or been canceled.

Solution:

In the first case just ignore the "error message" and continue as given. Normally you just have to reboot your machine. You might need to press the reset button if everything else fails. After the reboot the partitions (if you changed them) will be written and the selected packages will be installed.
