Installing S.u.S.E. Linux 4.4 from disk can be done without problems. However, it is not possible to start Linux with LILO.
Rigth after the AHA2940 gets initialized (reset), the driver hangs and the booting process freezes.
The 2940 driver in the precompiled kernels seems to have problems with other SCSI controller drivers, which don't program it correctly. That's why the problem doesn't appear with the boot disk that comes with S.u.S.E. Linux but only with the precompiled kernels.
Start the system with the boot disk just like you did during the installation. Choose "Boot installed system" and specify the device-name of your /-partition.
Login as root and compile a new kernel, that only contains
SCSI support for the AHA2940. Don't forget to reinstall LILO afterwards (i.e. execute
lilo).
