Network cards of the serie 3c9xx

Request:

You want to bring into operation a 3COM 3C9xx network card in an own kernel.

Procedure:

Please proceed as follows:
  1. Start YaST.

  2. Install the serie d's packet lx-suse. When it is already installed, replace it.

  3. Copy the patched driver from the first CD: 
    cp /cdrom/unsorted/patches/3c59x.c /usr/src/linux/drivers/net

  4. If you should install a network card driver either in make config or make menuconfig or make xconfig, you must choose the driver for 3c59x cards ("Vortex").

  5. Compile the kernel and install then the recompiled kernel.
