constructing a rescue disk

It is possible that the system cannot be booted at all. For this case we have prepared a rescue disk, you can use to repair your system, e.g. flesystem check. This disk is available from S.u.S.E.-Linux 4.2 on or at URL ftp://ftp.suse.de/pub.

This disk is created the same way as the boot- and installdisk. You need a bootdisk and the rescue-disk.

Example:

Under DOS:
Construct with Q:\dosutils\rawrite.exe, Image: Q:\disks\rescue, where Q: is the CDROM drive.
It´s easier with SETUP.EXE, of course.
Unter Linux/Unix:
dd if=/cdrom/disks/rescue of=/dev/fd0,
whereby the first CD has been mounted as /cdrom.
This is much easier to perform using YaST.

Boot your system using e.g. the boot-disk, which you did use for installation. Instead of the root-disk have the rescue-disk loaded into the ramdisk.

When this system has been booted, you will be able to check the partition and mount it, e.g. with the command

	e2fsck -p /dev/sda1
	mount -t ext2 /dev/sda1 /mnt

If you want to obtain a list of existing partitions, use the

	fdisk -l

command.
