SuSE Linux: Versions since 5.1
You try to install a single package from one of the »S.u.S.E. Linux« distribution 5.1 CDs without having updated the base system. You will get an error message as:
error -2 reading header: Unknown error
The old package manager (rpm version 2.4.x on »S.u.S.E. Linux«
5.0 ) does not recognize the new format of the packages.
There are two possibilities:
/cdrom:
rpm -U /cdrom/unsorted/rpm/rpm.rpm
rpm -U /cdrom/suse/a1/yast.rpm
Now you may install further packages using the new YaST.
Be aware that there are system programs included in YaST that make use of the
new libc.so.5. Please do only choose this way if you're
absolutely sure what you are doing! Of course problems that may arise are
not included in our installation support!
