Kernel: Versions since 2.0.31
An NCR SCSI controller refuses to run in ultra mode.
Some NCR controllers are capable and some are not. Nevertheless none of them does it automatically.
You need to use the BSD driver; see
/usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi/README.ncr53c8xx:
Example:
lilo: linux root=/dev/hda2 ncr53c8xx=tags:4,sync:10,debug:0x200
und:
Ultra SCSI support
Only apply to 860 and 875 controllers.
Have no effect with other ones.
ultra:y enabled
ultra:n disabled
Should work with:
linux ncr53c8xx=ultra:y
Well, only for the 860 and 875. The 895 says:
(1) The 895 chip is supported 'on paper'.
