Ghostscript: Using the uniprint driver

Request:

The "uniprint" driver has been included with Ghostscript since the release of version 5. With the driver it is possible to configure the interface to ESC/P-, ESC/P2- or HP-RTL/PCL printers. This is accomplished by the use of parameter files with the ".upp" suffixes.

How to procede?

Procedure:

1. Obtain Ghostscript 5.10, or a newer version if available. The version can be seen by typing the command:

   gs -v
   

2. As "root" user, run the SETUP script (see also the SuSE Linux Installation Manual) by typing the command:

   /var/lib/apsfilter/SETUP
   

3. When selecting drivers during the SETUP, make sure to choose the driver with the ".upp" suffix (you must scroll down to the bottom of the list).

The ".upp" files are located in the directory: /usr/share/ghostscript/VERSION (where "VERSION" represents the version number of the Ghostscript installed on your system. Special information on Ghostscript 5.10 can be found in the file /usr/share/ghostscript/5.10/doc/devices.txt.
