Quite difficult in view of the multitude of available ghostscript drivers for the different
DeskJet printers ;-).
Please take a look in the CDB (Component Database), and see if a special driver is recommended for your model: http://www.suse.de/cdb/english/; If no driver is recommended, then the following instructions should help:
First you should try the hpdj driver which is included in the
ghostscript package that comes along with your »SuSE Linux«-Distribution.
Configure apsfilter for this driver as usual: Start YaST
and select "System Administration", "Integrate hardware into system",
"Configure printers" and fill out the screen.
Please take a look at the man page for gs-hpdj and the file
/usr/share/ghostscript/<VERSION>/doc/hpdj/gs-hpdj.txt,
for a more detailed description of the configuration (where
"<VERSION>" should be substituted with the version of Ghostscript, ie
"5.10").
Up to date information on this driver may be found under ftp://ftp.pdb.sni.de/pub/utilities/misc/hpdj.html
For the difference between mono and color, the
file /etc/apsfilterrc.hpdj should contain the following
precaution:
if [ "$COLOR" = "mono" ]; then
GS_FEATURES="-sModel=unspec -sColourMode=mono
-sPrintQuality=draft"
else
GS_FEATURES="-sModel=unspec -sColourMode=CMYK
-sPrintQuality=normal"
fi
Make sure to verify (from the Manpage - see the section titled "Colour
Modes") that the selected color mode (in
this case "CMYK") is correct for your printer!
