Update »Linux snapshot!«

Plan:

You plan to update from a Linux snapshot! (tgz) or a >>S.u.S.E. Linux<< distribution to a new Linux snapshot! (rpm since summer '97).

Solution:

1. Create a boot disk as described in kfr_26.html.
2. Use this disk to bootup the machine and load the necessary modules with Linuxrc.
3. Select the menu entryt Installation / Start system start YaST.
4. Via Installation settings go to the submenu Assigning partitions / filesystems and read the old /etc/fstab by pressing F7.
5. Go back to the main menue by pressing Esc and select Update System .
6. Now you may update the base system.

Be aware that there is a difference between the Linux snapshot! and our "big" S.u.S.E. Linux distribution. Not every package from the regular distribution is included on the Linux snapshot!. It is manly a "snapshot" of some important FTP servers that come with a S.u.S.E. Linux base system. See http://www.suse.de/linux.html
