Using Adaptec 1540/1542/1542CF

Symptom:

Trying to load module "aha1542" does not work; no SCSI host adapter is found.

Reason:

Autoprobing only searches at addresses 0x330 and 0x334 ("I/O Portaddress"); (have a look at the driver source code /usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi/aha1542.c).

Solution:

If possible set one of the addresses mentioned above. 0x334 should be fine if you are using a sound catrd.

If you have to use a different address try a monolithic kernel image with build in aha1542 support and enter a the LILO prompt:

        LILO: linux aha1542=0x300

You can set these settings for further use in /etc/lilo.conf append line (please check the chapter of the manual about LILO).

SDB-Artikel kfr_26.html. If you are just installing the system you should use one of the boot images supporting AHA1542. YouŽll find these images on CD1 in /disks. The creation of bootable disks with one of these images is described in your manual, too.

If you compile your own kernel make sure to include support for "Adaptec AHA1542" (not as modul).

If you already have a running system and want to add the adapter card try to load the modul running
