addif: Invalid argument

Applicable to
S.u.S.E. version: 4.4, 4.4.1

Symptom:

The ISDN modules are succesfully loaded and work. However, at the ISDN net devices' configuration appears an error message: 
addif: Invalid argument

Cause:

This message appears in /sbin/init.d/i4l by the command 
/sbin/isdnctrl addif $NETDEV.

Test this e.g. by: /sbin/isdnctrl addif isdn0.

Solution:

Have you generated an own Kernel?

Probably you have not activated the parameter Network device support (CONFIG_NETDEVICES). Set the parameter to Y.
