This problem is, up to now, only known to S3 servers.
Particulary Diamond cards, as well as compatibles are affected by this.
Inserting the option "diamond" into the device section of /etc/XF86Config puts things right (see example):
Section "Device"
Identifier "My VGA"
VendorName "Card manufacturer"
BoardName "card"
...
Option "diamond"
...
EndSection
Obviously number_nine cards are also affected by this. In this case
inserting the option "number_nine" helps.This option might not be necessary anymore from XFree86 3.1.2E onwards.
