SuSE Linux: Versions since 5.0
XFree86: Versions since 3.3
You may install the common desktop environment (CDE manufactured by TriTeal) that is shipped along with RedHat on S.u.S.E. Linux 5.0 just as easily. Well, some point need your respect. Quite obviously the installation has to be performed as user root
mount -t iso9660 -o ro /dev/cdrom /cdrom/
cd /cdrom
./install-cde
pam, pwdb or
cracklib-dicts). They will be installed automatically.
/bin/ksh is
installed. On S.u.S.E. Linux 5.0 this file is located under
/usr/bin/ksh. So you only need to create a link:
ln -s /usr/bin/ksh /bin/ksh
/usr/dt/bin/dtlogin
/sbin/init.d/dtlogin
A link to /sbin/init.d/rc3.d/S99dtlogin will be created
automatically. On S.u.S.E. Linux this conflicts with the
XDM. You will have to remove either the link for CDE or for XDM.
If you want to use CDE obviously you will have to remove XDM.
rm -f /sbin/init.d/rc3.d/S30xdm /sbin/init.d/rc3.d/K10xdm
Furthermore the boot mechanism differs from RedHat to S.u.S.E.. So, if you
install the CDE from runlevel 2 the command
/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e
has no effect. This is designed for automatically starting dtlogin. As the
start/stop scripts are located in /sbin/init.d/rc3.d/ (for
runlevel 3) these will not be executed in runlevel 2.
If you plan to start the dtlogin at boot time you need to set the default in
/etc/inittab
to 3:
id:2:initdefault: change to id:3:initdefault:It is recommended to have a look at CDE's buglist: http://www.redhat.com/support/docs/cde/cde-1.2-errata.html
